Design & Sustainability
Aim:
To design and build furniture and woodwork that is healthy for the environment and the people using it. This is achieved through good design, careful choice of materials and appropriate methods of construction.Timbers are sourced from sustainably managed forests wherever possible.
Why Timber?
- Low embodied energy (minimal CO2 produced in it’s manufacture)
- It has the ability to lock up CO2 in it’s growth period
- Renewable resource
- Versatile • Strong • Value for money • Can be recycled
Long – Term Approach:
- To design and produce furniture and woodwork with timelessness and longevity in mind.
- To promote ecological design wherever possible, particularly in the choice of timbers which are sourced from sustainably managed forests, and the use of natural finishes such as organic oils and wax.
- To recycle as much waste as possible.
- To design with an emphasis on fitness for purpose and the asthetics of a piece for its setting.
